Develop your financial literacy and become an investor in the Community Investment Trust through the “Moving from Owing to Owning” online course.

“Moving from Owing to Owning” will prepare you to become a knowledgeable investor so that you can meet your financial goals. This class is a pre-requisite to becoming an investor in the Community Investment Trust.

Time: This class will take place on April 21st, 22nd, and 23rd from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (2 hours per day).

Place: This course will be conducted through an online platform.  After registering, you will receive an email invitation to the course platform and a packet of documents used for the course. 
Cost: This class is FREE. Upon completing the course, in addition to becoming eligible to invest in the CIT, you will earn a $15 gift card to a Plaza 122 food truck!

What is the Community Investment Trust?

The Community Investment Trust is Mercy Corps’ first-of-its-kind, financial inclusion tool created to empower residents and strengthen communities.

To be eligible for the Plaza 122 CIT, you must:

  • Live in zip code 97216, 97230 ,97233, or 97236
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a tax ID number (TIN)

  • What participants will learn:
    • How to lower what you owe and increase what you own
  • What participants will do:
    • Figure out your current wealth and compare with financial goals
    • Create a budget for savings and long-term investment

Session 2: Taking Action Towards Your Goals

  • What participants will learn:
    • Address the gap between your financial goals and current net worth
    • Improve your credit score
  • What participants will do:
    • Take action on the gap between personal wealth and goals
    • Take action on your credit report and improve credit
    • Create a plan to stay on track with your financial goals

Session 3: Investment Planning for matching your Goals

  • What participants will learn:
    • How various investments work and their risks/benefits
  • What participants will do:
    • Identify potential barriers to saving and investing
    • Evaluate the suitability of certain investment options.
    • Create an investment plan to help achieve your financial goals.
