About the Seminar

Need financing for your business?  Want to learn more about micro-loans, SBA loans, crowd-funding and other funding options? Wondering which type of financing is best for your business? Finding funding for your venture is a challenge all entrepreneurs face.  In an ever-changing financial landscape, it is hard to know what is available and what may be best for you, especially for micro-businesses and solo entrepreneurs. We can help!

In this seminar, we will cover the following questions:

  • Which financing options are available to me?
  • What is best for my current situation?
  • How can I best position myself to be successful in getting financing?
  • How can I prepare myself to be “loan ready?”

In this seminar we will go over some of the options for financing your business, and the pros and cons of each.  Two members of MCNW’s Lending Team will lead this seminar, which will be valuable to both startups and existing businesses looking to grow and invest in their venture.

About the Presenters

ben-misley-headshot-2_fotorBen Misley is a Loan Officer for MCNW, where he helps small businesses who cannot get traditional credit from banks access the financing they need to grow.  Prior to this role, he managed MCNW’s matching business grants program, where entrepreneurs get the training and funding they needed for equipment and hard asset purchases.  He holds bachelor degrees in Business Management, Finance and International Business from Oregon State, and his previous experience includes with a regional bank to open a new branch in SE Portland.  Ben is an active Board Member for Ncompass, a non profit dedicated to serving and supporting an orphanage in Haiti as well as youth mobilization and development work in the USA.  Ben grew up in Gladstone, Oregon, and loves all things Portland and the Pacific NW.

imageAndrew Volkman was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he graduated from Westminster College with degrees in Accounting and Management. After college, he began working in the commercial banking industry and spent the majority of his career specializing in commercial and corporate lending. In 2000, Andrew started a denovo bank in Park City, Utah and was named its President in 2006. In 2008, Andrew left the banking industry to pursue work in the environmental and social justice field. He attended graduate school at Middlebury Graduate School in Monterey, California, where he earned a master’s degree in international environmental policy. He has done economic development work in rural regions of El Salvador and has worked with the United Nations Development Program, OXFAM and Grameen Bank to develop sustainable agriculture programs in Ethiopia and Senegal. After completing his master’s degree in 2010, Andrew moved to Portland to help pilot a renewable energy project financing program for Energy Trust of Oregon. In 2014, Andrew joined Mercy Corps Northwest as the manager of their lending program and recently was named the Director of Small Business Services.
