Collaborating on Reentry Issues in our Community

Reentry Organizations and Resources (ROAR) promotes successful prisoner reentry from incarceration to the community.

involve-your-group ROAR is a collaboration of nonprofit, faith-based and government agencies that work as an alliance.  We coordinate existing resources in the community, catalyze collaboration and mutual learning among reentry organizations, and promote greater awareness of re-entry issues in the general public and government bodies.

It is our belief that successful reentry results in more productive lives for these individuals, healthier families and neighborhoods, and greater public safety and economic stability for our community.

Objectives

ROAR was formed to:

  • Reduce recidivism by coordinating non-profits, county and state agencies to better serve common goals of accessible services and strong communities
  • Exchange information among members and offer opportunities for dialogue and cooperation
  • Educate ROAR members in legislation, funding opportunities, local programs and best practices
  • Aggregate our experience and speak with a united voice to inform policy and administrative decisions at the city, county and state levels

How It Works

ROAR meets quarterly to discuss relevant subjects and share presentations from guest speakers and our partner organizations. Past guest presenters have included Judge Ann Akin, Chief Judge of the Oregon District Court and Max Williams, then-Director of the Oregon Department of Corrections. Subjects of the meeting have included funding, housing and mental health as they relate to re-entry. Meetings are open to anyone interested in reentry issues.

ROAR is directed by a rotating steering committee made up from member organizations.

The ROAR Website

ROAR also maintains a website and newsletter for reentry issues,  information, resources and activities.
