Community Investment Trust
What if people could pool their resources, set their sights on their own neighborhood, brainstorm their own daily needs, and turn that into an investment opportunity? Mercy Corps Northwest is linking personal asset building with neighborhood economic development. Our idea: let low-income residents of neighborhoods in outer SE Portland and elsewhere in the city, where many residents are renters, invest in a commercial building (a Real Estate Investment Trust) right in their own neighborhood. We’re calling it a Community Investment Trust. Meet Glendy, a resident of SE Portland, in the video above to learn more about this new model for financial inclusion.
